The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is a comprehensive clinical care, education and research centre, based at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre (VG site) for adult services, and the IWK Health Centre for pediatric services.

We strive to continue our leadership in the delivery of vision care through innovation, education and research.

23nd Annual Research Day 2012

Research Day provides an opportunity for our clinical staff, residents, scientists, and medical students to update their peers on their ongoing and planned research projects.

The 23nd Annual Research Day of the Department was held on April 27th. There was a diverse range of presentations representing the broad range of research being conducted in vision sciences at Dalhousie. Our Keynote Speaker was Dr. Terri L. Young of the Duke Eye Centre.

Prizes were awarded to the top two Ophthalmology Resident presenters, and two non-resident presenters.

This year’s winners are:

Residents:

Top Prize:
Dr. Anuradha Mishra for "Hypodense “holes” in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) of patients with glaucoma and healthy controls"

Second Prize:
Dr. Lisa Heckler for "A comparison of intracameral mydriasis with topical mydriasis for cataract surgery"

 

Non-Residents:

Top Prize:
Dr. Tony Redmond for "Psychometric functions for visual field stimuli of different size"

Second Prize:
Sally Dickinson
for "Development of intrinsic spiking in retinal ganglion cells"
